Pre-Black Friday purchase

I did not venture out into the madness that is Black Friday shopping, but I did pick up two OCBDs from Brooks Brothers before Thanksgiving. These are two of the most versatile and  indispensable shirts that a man can have in his wardrobe. They can be dressed up or down, as comfortable with a sport coat and flannels or a pair of jeans. A few things to remember though -

1. Untreated oxford cloth WILL SHRINK, so be sure to buy a size up (extra 1/2” in the neck, and extra 1” in the sleeve). Then give them a nice hot wash and medium dry a few times before wearing to bring them back down to the appropriate size.
2. Get the original Polo collar. Don’t follow the current trend of undersized collars. It won’t have any roll, it will look ridiculous with a tie, and it will be outdated in a year or two. You don’t want that, because with proper care these shirts will last a LONG time. Which brings us to the last point…
3. Make sure you don’t throw them away when the cuffs and collar begin to fray - that just means they’re getting good.
